Dental Health Tips for Soon To Be Mothers

Morning sickness with frequent vomiting coats the teeth with strong stomach acid which can destroy the protective enamel on your teeth. Rinsing your mouth with water only after vomiting, will wash the acid off the teeth. It takes about 30 minutes for your saliva to re-mineralise the damaged enamel so do not use a toothbrush for 30 minutes after vomiting as you will damage the softened enamel.

Pregnancy Cravings

Cravings for sweet foods and drinks can increase during pregnancy. Try to limit the cravings and make sure you clean your teeth properly to remove any sticky, sweet debris.  Remember to always spit and not rinse after cleaning your teeth to leave a small amount of fluoride coating on your teeth for added protection.

Dental Health Tips for New Mothers

With a lot of new and interesting things to do and no extra time in the day to do them, taking proper care of your own teeth often misses out. Brushing twice a day and spitting not rinsing will go a long way to protect your teeth between your six monthly dental check-ups.

Dental Health Tips for Experienced Mothers

We know you want your teeth and smile to last a lifetime. Prevention is better and less costly than pain and treatment so keep cleaning, flossing and having six monthly dental check-ups. And a tip for all the family - soft drinks, sports drinks and energy drinks are highly acidic and begin to soften the enamel on your teeth as soon as you take your first sip.  Avoid or reduce drinking them to protect teeth from enamel erosion. If you do drink them, it is very important that you rinse out your mouth with water immediately after finishing the drink.
